How often does Songless repeat a song?
We went through every recorded Songless daily puzzle — 306 answer entries across 102 recorded days — and checked which songs came back, when, and in which category. Short answer: repeats are real but rare, always in the same category, and usually months apart.
Method and data
- Window: March 30, 2026 to October 31, 2026 — 102 recorded puzzle days out of 216 calendar days (coverage is not continuous; a missing date means our tracker has no record for it).
- Units: each puzzle day contains three answer entries (All, Rock, Hip Hop). 306 entries produce 270 unique song + artist pairs by 207 artists.
- Source: official puzzle results, published in our public archive JSON. You can recompute every number on this page from that file.
- Definitions: a repeat means the same song title and artist appearing on two or more different puzzle dates. A song reappearing in a different category would count too — we found none.
The headline numbers
- 36 of 270 unique songs (13.3%) have been used more than once; that is 72 of 306 answer entries (23.5%) if you count each appearance.
- No song has appeared more than 2 times in our records — the puzzle still rotates its catalogue.
- Every repeat stayed in one category (36/36), and no song ever appeared twice on the same day.
- Repeats are far apart: median gap 155 days, minimum 21, maximum 206; 33 of 36 repeat pairs are more than 60 days apart.
- Repeat songs skew slightly older than the full catalogue: their average release year is 2002 versus 2006 for every recorded answer.
Every repeated song (36)
Sorted by number of appearances, then alphabetically. Dates link to the corresponding day pages; the “Times” column is how many times the song has been recorded.
How far apart are the repeats?
Only 3 of 36 repeat pairs happened within two months; the puzzle tends to leave a long gap before reusing a track.
| Gap between repeats | Repeat pairs |
|---|---|
| 7 days or less | 0 |
| 8–30 days | 2 |
| 31–60 days | 1 |
| More than 60 days | 33 |
Which categories repeat?
Repeat entries by category: All 18, Rock 30, Hip Hop 24. Because every repeated song stayed in its original category, a repeat is a same-lane event — useful if you play only Rock or only Hip Hop.
Artists that keep coming back
77 artists have more than one recorded appearance. These are the top ten — note that multiple appearances do not necessarily mean the same song.
| Artist | Recorded appearances |
|---|---|
| Linkin Park | 5 |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers | 4 |
| 50 Cent | 4 |
| XXXTENTACION | 4 |
| The Doors | 4 |
| Meek Mill | 3 |
| 21 Savage | 3 |
| Megan Thee Stallion | 3 |
| Post Malone | 3 |
| Don Toliver | 3 |
What this means for players
If you play daily, a repeat is a small free win: the song is familiar, but it usually returns only after four to five months, so you cannot rely on memorising the answer. The practical takeaway is the opposite of cramming — the puzzle’s catalogue is wide (270 unique songs in 102 recorded days), and the same artist returning (top: Linkin Park) is more common than the same song returning.

How is this analysis calculated?
We take every recorded puzzle day from our public archive (/api/archive.json), treat each All/Rock/Hip Hop answer as one entry, then group by song title + artist. Dates come from the official puzzle results, so the study can be recomputed from the archive at any time.
Does coverage affect the result?
Yes. The window covers 102 recorded puzzle days between March 30, 2026 and October 31, 2026, not every calendar day in that period — some dates are absent because our tracker did not record them. The numbers describe our recorded sample, not the complete history of the game.
